ADVANCED GUM TREATMENT

Gum disease begins with plaque depositing on your teeth, without you being aware of it." Our mouth is full of bacteria. These bacteria, along with saliva and other food particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless "plaque" on teeth. Proper brushing and flossing can remove plaque. When it accumulates to excessive levels and is not removed, it can harden into a substance called tartar (calculus) in as little as few days. Only a professional cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist can remove tartar.

Scaling

If you have gingivitis - the least serious type of gum disease your dentist or hygienist will clean your teeth thoroughly above and below the gums using a handheld or electric instrument. This is sometimes called a scale and polish. Your hygienist may also recommend a mouthwash that can help prevent plaque forming.

Root Planing

If you have periodontists you may need extra treatment to remove the plaque, tartar and damaged tooth covering. This is called root planing. During the treatment your dentist or hygienist may inject a local anesthetic into your gums if needed. This will completely block the feeling from your gums but youll remain awake during the treatment.

Irrigation
